Yom Kippur 5781

We all sinned, and have no excuses but laziness and small-mindedness. But at least –  if one transgresses properly – there’s an energy, a sense of being alive. On Yom Kippur we frantically beg for forgiveness, and it’s true, we don’t want to sin anymore. But we don’t just want to keep the rules, we want to live! “Remember us for life, King who desires life, inscribe us in the book of life.” The first million victims of this plague have shaken our sense of security. Who knows if and how we will live out this year? But that fear itself is robbing us of a life of desire. Let us pray to find that source of liveliness – to love living again.
